My 02' auto trans from the very get go had the problem just as you desribed it, both in N and in D with foot on the brakes. At first the Saab only dealer told me this was common with new Saabs and that after some mileage the problem would go away. I got a little angry at that response, and, anyway, to the point, it wouldn't apply to a current 01'. So the dealer called Saab USA, just before I called them too btw, and Saab USA told me that they were aware of this problem with certain 02's. (Again, may not be relevant to 01'?) Anyway, Saab USA sent out a "shim kit" that they had been working on in GA. The dealer took my car's entire engine out, put in this tiny little shim kit, then set the engine back in. The head service manager then kept and drove the car back and forth to his house for a couple of days--thank you for using my lease mileage, right! Anyway, I got the car back and, as I posted here back in April 02', the car felt like my the various Mercedes Ds and Es my mom always drove in the 80s and early 90s and which I always borrowed for proms and stuff; in other words, the car felt like a tank, like a true get the hell out of my way tank, Hummer be damned. This made sport mode a little less than thrilling. So, then, after about two weeks, the car's engine "settled" as the dealer called it into its new position (or whatever) and the car was back to normal with this time no vibration. Mileage now was still less than 1000 miles. Since then no problems and love the car like my brother.
