Thanks Mike. That very well could be it. I thought perhaps it might be an airbag sensor (know Siemens is involved in that technology), but I would think it's too close/vulnerable for such a sensor. I'm getting my outside temp still, but I'll suggest this to the dealer (who had no idea, incidentally, how to diagnose the A/C groan, but thanks to this BB, now I know -- expansion valve).
