Service was not my point

bRAD: My point was not that I wanted to "service" my car" (I absolutely don't), just that I wanted to change user preferences on my own, without having to go to the dealer, and without having the dealer then tell me that what I want done is impossible. Service, meaning repair and maintenance, is another issue entirely, and on that subject I believe that most modern auto electronics are so far beyond the capability of most shade tree mechanics that they should not even be thinking of doing it themselves. The electronics and diagnostic systems on today's cars require specialized equipment like the Tech 2, and someone trained to fly the plane. These are just not DIY times anymore in the world of sophisticated high end cars. TO adjust my radio volume, decide on how to make my locks chirp, or not chirp, and when a dashboard alarm should come on for service intervals, I can do that myself without a trip to the dealer.
