Here's a frustrating follow-up to my previous post about the fact that the 9-5's for 2003 are missing the Triangle Safety Kit and the Side Net. Yesterday I was at my local dealer for them to fix a broken seat control switch on my new Aero. As I was waiting and talking to the Salesman, I mentioned my dissapointment in the fact that these items were missing from the new car; how I always remarked how thoughtful Saab was to put a safety triangle in the car in case it broke down on the side of the road; how convenient the side net was; blah blah blah. Well I guess I whined enough that he went out to a 2000 9-5 that was on the lot and took the Triangle kit and the side net out and gave them to me! Shamelessly, I took my newly acquired loot and headed home. When I opened the trunk and put the Safety kit in, I noticed that it velcroed to the cavity in the trunk lid. But the minute I closed the trunk, out it fell! Then I realized - no retaining clips! Oh well, I lifted the Spare tire lid and wedged the unit in by the spare tire. Not the best solition, but problem solved (until I can convince the Parts Manager to get me a set of those clips!). However, when I went to install the side net, I was in for a bigger surprise - only 3 eye hooks! It is missing the upper right hook, so I can't even use the damn thing. I can't believe that Saab would cheapen out on such a small, but useful item. Without that upper hook, they don't even give the owners the option of putting a net in. This really dissapoints me. When you spend this kind of money on a vehicle, and buy (for whatever reasons you have) what I consider a premium European sedan, at least I certainly expect these little "features" that the North American car makers take for granted. Is this a sign of GM's influence on the Saab leadership? I really don't understand this oversight on Saab's part because even my wife's Chevy Tahoe has a nice net in the backk area to contain loose items, which we use all the time. Can those little eyelets be purchased? Is this another item that I need to whine to my salesman about? I really hope Saab doesn't diminish these little value add items that make these vehicles so special. I have always thought that these little touches are what separates these cars from others, and I hope that they don't loose sight of that.

Anyways, enough of my whining. I still love my 2003 Aero.

Happy motoring.

Tom
