It does seem strange to hear about this kind of cost cutting on the production line when at the dealer's end they are chopping £5000 (uk pounds) off 2002 models as an incentive to move them.
FWIW, I have the 2002 Aero, and whilst it comes complete with net, it didn't come with the cup holder in the armrest (no great loss), and the rear cigarette lighter was a plastic dummy, not the real thing. Again, no great loss.
The safety triangle was attached with Velcro though - no clips. Even when I picked the car up from the dealer, doing my pre-acceptance inspection, I noticed the triangle missing from the boot (trunk) lid. I asked the dealer about it, and he said, oh, they aren't doing that anymore. Strange I thought, given it was a safety item. Then I noticed it at the far back of the boot floor. What's that then? I asked. This made the dealer a little uncomfortable as he'd just told me they weren't doing it any more! I grabbed it, and tried to fit it. It won't stay on the lid, and hasn't to this day. Saab SURELY must have tried the velcro, and found it doesn't work. Why do they persist with it?
