My experience with Xenon lights (not just Saabs) is that they seem to have a _very_ tight beam of light. If you look at a reflection of the pattern on a wall, all you see are narrow slits of light. The area actually covered by the lights is, of course, brighter but falls off dramatically when you are removed from the beam pattern.
I remember driving my previous car with Xenon lights on a rural freeway. On low beams, it was impossible to see the elevated road signs because there was not enough scatter from the headlights to cause a reflection.
I have been very impressed with the lighting power of my halogen equipped 9-5 - no burned out bulbs, yet! The absolute best lights (in terms of power) I have encountered in recent memory were on (don't laugh) a relative's '92 Honda Accord. The high beams on that thing were better than landing lights!
