The rear brake saga continues....

I know some may feel it serves me right for messing with Saab's great brakes by installing crossdrilled rotors, but oh well.
This is meant as a "heads up" to all who will be replacing either rear pads or rear rotors on their 9-5's. Saab introduced the 9-5 with a rear brake system identical to the 9-3, part way through the 1999 madel year they changed it. Where it was a dual piston system using squarish pads in fixed calipers, it was changed to a single piston system using trapezoidal pads in floating calipers - nearly identical to the front.
Saab's own service information is sketchy on this point. In the repair/replace section of the W.I.S. there is only one brake system described for the '99 year and two for the '00 year. In the service section of the W.I.S. the specific serial number of the last vehicle with the old style braking system is listed - and it is clearly a 1999 vehicle.
Because of this (and the fact that quantities of '99 and '00 cars are just now accumulating enough miles to require rear brake servicing) some parts suppliers are selling the wrong parts with only the best intentions.
This is what I encountered this weekend when attempting to replace all four rotors and pads. The fronts went fine, the rears were the wrong parts. So far my supplier is cooperating with the exchange of parts but they are clearly confused by this.
Just be double sure you get the right parts. Some e-tailers may not be as helpful.
