Hey,
You're talking to the high priest of everything oily! Take off your
shoes in his august presence for you are treading on hoily soil! Oh Woe
to thee non believers that doubt the teachings of the hoily prophet 0w-40!
Repent thy contumely and thy ingorance for judgement day is nigh!!!
:-)
O.K. ... the term "shearing" is being used in short hand fashion as
is done over on "Bobistheoilguy" forum. What is getting sheared are the
viscosity modifiers, and in this case because the oil is semi-synthetic,
more viscosity modifiers have to be added than if it were fully-synthetic.
When these shear, the top number drops. In this case, the top number
dropped from SAE 30 to SAE 20. A 20 weight oil does not provide adequate
protection for your high performance turbo engine. It will get pushed
right out of the critical high pressure regions like the bearings, and
what's worse, when the oil was pushed out there was no molybdenum to
serve as last line of defence.
The _only_ good thing about this oil is that it probably roughed up
the cylinders more so than fully synthetic so that the seal between
piston and cylinder wall is better. But after break-in, adios Saab
turbo semi-synthetic blend!
thanks
Jae
