John, there are a multitude of variables that may support an answer to your question, but I do have some anecdotal results of my own experiences. Last fall, I conducted some mileage vs. speed tests using the trip computer. The constants were: 92 octane fuel, level open highway, no wind, 70 deg F, 1500 ft elev. and 10 miles for each speed increment. The results were: 35 mph--35.2 mpg; 50 mph--35.4 mpg; 60 mph--35.7 mpg; 65 mph--34.7 mpg. My conclusion? Within the speed range from 35 to 65, it doesn't seem to make a whole lot of difference how fast you drive to achieve good mileage, but 60 seems to be a "sweet spot".
