Bay Area 9-5 lease return info?

My wife and I have been looking at a replacement for our 97 Grand Caravan (a most embarassing vehicle purchase) and, aided by this very useful BB, have decided to take the plunge on a '00 thru '02 9-5 non-Aero wagon. There doesn't seem to be a large supply of anything other than '99s (which I am not interested in). I've looked at Ebaymotors, Roberti, Family Motors in Sonoma, Craigslist, TSN classifieds and Bay Area dealer websites. I think I should be able to get an '00 for under $23K or a '01 for under $27K. I understand that Saab Financial Services and Chase Bank have a monthly dealer auction in Hayward. Would I be likely to find a wagon of our liking through this source? How does the quality and bang for the buck through this auction compare to buying through some of the big used Saab dealers you see on Ebaymotors? What's the best way to participate in these dealer auctions? Or would you recommend avoiding lease returns? Many thanks from someone who is looking forward to having a key in his center console...(I'm talking about the car!)
