....last summer. The wife wanted something new to replace our 14 year-old Volvo wagon. I had been "looking" in magazines, bulletin boards, etc. because the choice was either Volvo or Saab (I already had one of each). Volvo did a big push to sell cars in the 90s and their quailty control did get away from them as they did admit. Seeing the 9-5 quality pick up, we went from a 2-Volvo/1-Saab family to a 2-Saab/1-Volvo family.
I will tell you that one of the dealers that I shopped carried both marques. The Volvo looked a little "cheap" in the interior; cheaper than the Saab and cheaper than my '88 wagon! They only had the V70 base model or Cross Country and I would have opted for the 2.4T which does not come into North America in large numbers, or so I was told.
I don't see how you could go wrong with either one. Both manufacturers make fine automobiles and both keep safety at the forefront when developing new models. Obviously, viewpoints on this BB will favor the Saab...myself included.
I originally sought a wagon, however, our "preferred" colors were not available until the 2003s arrived. When I saw the size of the trunk of the sedan, it was not a difficult compromise.
