hondas s2000 uses VVTi (VTEC) variable valve timing... so up until about 5000 rpms there is minimal power (timing is tuned so idle and low rpms are smooth)... then after 5000 or so (5250?) rpm, the second set of cams enter, and the timing is changed for top end power (this timing would make idling too rough).
hence the ridiculous power :) .... but try driving that in the city.. you have to rev up everytime you want power... it has 158 or so lbft of torque, not very good for low rpm moving.
non turbo engines always have higher compression ratios, turbos have lower ones to keep temp/strain down. a 2.0L engine rated at 140hp w/ 9.5:1 compression running at 7psi boost will get about 200-220hp.
a 2.0L running 8.5:1 and tuned for a small turbo @ 14psi will get about 210hp (numbers taken from a non-turbo 99 eclipse w/ aftermarket turbo vs factory GS-T eclipse; yes, the engines are different (420A vs 4g63) but even if they were the same, the higher compression could get the same power with less boost.)
