if anyone has looked at the front of the 2002 and later 9-5, you can tell it doesn't take much of a hit to get things out of line. The front bumper cover and the grill is all of one piece, so when you hit something, front, side, bottom, anything that is attached to the front, i.e. the fog light, the turn signal, and the headlights all get affected one way or the other. Yes, this design simplifies assembly but we all sure pay for it in repair.
If anyone has a 9000 or OG900, you can see the difference between a front that can take lots of abuse versus the newer 9-5 that cannot take much of a hit. Granted the overall structural integrity is much better in the 9-5 but the trim pieces literally will fly off when you hit something.
