My son's Saturn was recently hit by a delivery truck while parked at the curb in front of our house. After first reporting it to my insurer (USAA) when we didn't know who had done the damage, I called them back to tell them the other party had stepped forward and was going to pay for everything (ended up being $1,200 for r/r and paint on two door skin panels and a fender). USAA told me my policy still required me to file a detailed "loss report" with them even if I wasn't involving them in the claim. I checked the policy boilerplate and they were right (maybe a California-specific thing?). I went ahead and filed it over the phone. After being with them for 33 years, I didn't want to piss them off at this late date. Great company, no complaints BTW.
GOod thing it wasn't my wife's spotless 9-5 Linear,....
