I understood that part. I was comparing wholesale auction in CT to PA auction.
I would disagree with your contention that most of the cars need major work. You can buy off lease cars very easily that are in good shape. Tires and brakes maybe but not "several thousand dollars" for the "majority". There is usually about a 15% premium between the auction and street price...just not enough room for the majority to have a huge amount of work needed.
If you get the reputation of selling bad cars at these auctions it will come around to bite you much harder than the effort of making them at least saleable. Buying from the major leasing companies is pretty reliable, thus why they usually get a slight premium for their cars over the no name sellers.
