This happened to my '99 9-5 at around 60K miles, and it was a failed throttle body that caused it. It would simply not idle... I had to keep one foot on both the gas and brake pedals and the other foot on the clutch to keep it from stalling out.
If you have access to a mechanic with a TechII, he can pull the code in a minute and pinpoint it.
The part was around $350, and it took my mechanic only 1/2 hour to diagnose and replace it. Once I saw how easy it was to change out, I decided to do it myself if it ever failed again. That might be an option for you if you don't want to pay a mechanic and pay undiscounted prices for the part.
