See the link if you don't have the background on this issue.
I suggest agressive bedding in, using the technique outlined in the linked web pages, but certainly not to the point of turning the rotors blue or toasting the pads. But certainly you need to get a burn off of some of the organic materials to prevent a transfer to the disk. The organic material in this case is Kelvar. EBC is a semi metalic pad. A balance of organic materials and abrasive materials is required to keep the deposits on the rotor surface where it works best, and that balance is controlled by your driving habits too. There also was a stir a while ago about ceramic pads. You are not going to find a pad that is purely ceramic. Ceramic materials will simply be part of the non-organic fraction. Ceramic pads could also very well be quite abrasive as far as pad life goes. But this depends on the type, form, proportion and overall mix of the pad compounds. At this point anyone who wants to put a fraction of anything into pads that could be considered ceramic, can call such pads ceramic. So what does that mean? If I was to grind up red clay flowerpots and blend that into pad compounds I could claim to have ceramic pads. Calling a pad ceramic does not mean that the pads will brake better, fade less or have longer life for the pads of the rotors. Only real experience will determine that.
And more about deposits on rotors. When there are organics in a pad that create surface deposits on rotors, which is a combo of pad compounds, burnt pad compounds, wear material from the rotor and road dust and grime, this surface can be reasonably rust resistant. And with some pads, perhaps not. My EBC's are quite good at not getting rusty. Ditto for aftermarket ATE pads for our Passat. Any feelings out there about this issue for the stock Saab pads?
