This is an interesting topic for 9-5 V6 owners, and I Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: se v6 timing belt tensioner, hdm, Fri, 6 Jun 2003 05:34:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
have been waiting to hear about it.
The NG900 V6 engines had tremedous amount of problems with the timing belt and tensioners/idler pulleys. That's why Saab decided to replace the timing belt every 30K miles on those models, and install a new tensioner assembly if the car had "old model", for free for the first 95K miles.
The new tensioner assembly is almost identical to the one installed in the 9-5 V6 from factory, and the NG900 was suppose to run 60K between timing belt changes (just like 9-5 V6) when the update had been done.
I have heard about a couple of cases where the new tensioner/pulley in the NG900 have gone bad, and have been wondering if that is going to happen in the 9--5 too.
At least the dealer should have recommended you to replace the tensioner, at the time of belt replacement even if you would have had to pay the price for part. Since they must know about the history of the NG900 belt and tensioner.
