I would have to say that since Saab, Volvo etc. has been making more reliable turbo's that others ARE starting to catch on. How do you thing MazdaSpeed Protege turbo and Dodge SR-T turbo are selling cars for 20k with turbo's! The thing about Subaru/Porsche(just sold Impreza RS for my Saab)is that they were the only ones to start with the boxer engines, and they have been making them better ever since. Nobody else is willing to spend the money to swap their inline and V-. engines to experiment with boxer engines, even though it is a better design. It would just be too expensive to start experimenting at the beginning. Also Subaru has the boxer engine to lower center of gravity, give 50-50 weight, and the best for safety AWD!!! Does that mean Saab should copy Subaru because they have the best of both worlds? Not really, because then Saab would have to make an AWD, Boxer, Turbo sedan that would be at least $60k!!! even though it would be the best car ever made! The problem is that you have to cut costs somewhere and unfortunately Subaru cuts their costs by making the interior's all plastic and cheap. :( That is what I love about my 9-5, who has air-conditioned seat, 360 degree air vents, and the nicest/easiest instrument panel in the industry. Nobody can match the engineering that goes into the Saab's and the gadget are great! Sorry for rambling on, I just loved my Suby, but I love my Saaby more! LOL
BTW, the night I got my 9-5 3.0t I had to see what it could do, not that I condone high speeds off the track, but I got mine to 130 on I-95 and it just kept boosting!
Happy motoring too!
David
