Been there, done that. Consumer Reports claims that the reliability of the 9-5 is the best ever for Saab. I don't think you can compare Saabs to the Japanese cars as far as reliability, but Saabs are certainly a lot more interesting to drive. They are at least as reliable as any other Eurpoean car. I had an '89 9000 and a '95 9000, and I swore I would never buy another one, they were both nightmares as far as frequency of repairs. I test drove a lot of cars, and went ahead and bought another Saab anyway. I just couldn't find anything else that matched the comfort and versatility of the Saab, and was as much fun to drive. I only have 12,000 miles on my '02 Aero SW, but once I got past the first couple weeks, knock on wood, so far so good. You also have to weight that "fun factor". We have had several Hondas and Acuras, but the Saabs are definitely a lot more fun to drive!
God Luck,
AeroLady
