which you should at all times, the current headprotecting sideairbag is very good. It will protect your face against glass from the side window, and keep your head inside the vehicle. However, if you foolishly choose to drive without seatbelt, of course you will flap around in a crash, and only a full window blocking curtain airbag will keep you inside. So I guess curtain airbags could be called a safety improvement for the mentally challenged who don't wear seatbelts....
The only benefit I see with the curtain airbags over the current a/b is for the rear passengers.
