The 2.7t is less than reliable. As nice of an engine as it is, it just can't reach the reliability of a Saab. I also own a '00 B5 Passat 1.8T and have been quite lucky that this is a fairly reliable engine for VAG. Between my chipped Passat and my stock 9-5 LPT wagon, the Saab definitely feels faster. (extra displacement?).
Two things I must put on the plus side for AUDI/VW, their fit and finish is awesome and their designs are clean and attractive. (not that the Saab is any slouch in the looks department.) ;)
