But I drive a 2.3L four-cyl stick shift. I get 22-23 mpg city, 31-34 mpg hwy. It's EPA rated 22/31.
I believe the 9-5 V6 is EPA rated 18/26, while the GTP is 18/28.
So they're about the same, and I believe the GTP has the advantage of higher torque and taller gears. Those GM V6 engines can get very good highway mileage (esp the 3.1) due to tall overdrive gearing.
You might want to measure fuel economy using the trip odometer method, maybe your SID is a little bit off? It's very possible for it to be off by a little bit.
Don't feel bad, my cousin's BMW 325i stick shift only gets 16 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. And it makes only 184 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque.
