I bought a replacement belt from a site sponsor for $30, and went ahead and replaced the two pulleys that tend to go bad at the same time. The belt itself can be replaced in 10 minutes -if that's all you're doing. My job lastd 6-8 hours because I was changing the pulleys. Or rather the center pulley which is a bugger to get at.
Now, I understand from this board that there is a short belt option that bypasses the prone to failure, difficult to change, otherwise useless center pulley.
But getting back to your thought...Yes, $220 is highway robbery when they probably buy the belt for $16-22. If they charged $40 for the belt, and $30 for labor they'd have been reasonable.
But then, the price is in line with other dealers who routinely charge at inflated rates.
