Your 5000 mile change interval is right on - especially in fast paced Boston traffic. Saab's current primary oil recommendation is ACEA A3/B3. Saab's synthetic blend is an excellent product - but it does not meet the primary Factory recommendation. Neither does Saab's 0W30 fully synthetic oil. What's the difference? High temperature high shear viscosity (in the bearings, and maybe inside the chain as well) is higher with ACEA A3/B3 than with the oil SaabUSA sells. The Saab oil will deliver better fuel economy, though.

I recommend selecting an oil of your choice which meets the primary spec and bring that to the dealer, or select a qualified independent service source to do the same. There are several synthetic and synthetic blends on the market that meet ACEA A3/B3, and each one has its advocates for whatever reason (price, availablilty, perceived quality, reputation, oil analyses, brother-in-law has stock in the company, whatever).

I also recommend sticking with one type of oil through several oil changes. The 9-5 leaves around a quart of the previous oil in the oil cooler, so switching around leaves a witch's brew of different additive packages. Obviously you can make a single switch at any time ... oil companies make certain that additive packages are compatible to the extent that someone driving down the road needing a single quart added can do so without risk. It's when you mix three or more different oils, that is questionable.
