I have a 02 Linear and a 99 93 convertible. I love both cars! But now,I don't know what to think.
About 2 months ago "time of service" message on SID. Car was exactly 1 year old, but had only 6K miles on it. I decided to wait until I moved in early July to take it in (I am now only a few miles from dealership). I took the 9-5 on a quick round trip from SD to LA about a week ago. The car perfomed flawlessly. The next day, the car would start on the first crank. Tried to start it again and it started, but ran very rough (as though only hitting on 3 cylinders). A moment later, started running normally, and, despite not having my foot on the gas, reved to about 6K rpms for just a few seconds and then settled back to normal idle. The car appeared to drive normally, except for a noise (muffled mechanical, metal on metal sound) from the right front (engine or wheel well) with acceleration only. So I made an appt to bring car in.
I took it to Marvin Brown Saab where I was told very politely that despite my car being 14 months old, it had only 8K miles and, therefore, 10K service would not be free. I told them to skip it - I'd bring the car back in 1.5k miles for service, but I wanted the noise investigated. They told me I'd have to leave the car overnight. Today, I get a call reporting that they hear the noise but are unsure what is causing it. They plan to upgrade the engine software and hope it will fix it. Later I get another call to come pick up my car. When I pick it up, he tells me that they replaced the turbo suction pipe o-ring, and compared the noise to a new 02 9-5 Linear, and cannot hear any difference. Lo and behold, I drive off in the car, and the noise is exactly the same as before. I know the car never made this noise previously and it cannot be normal. My 9-3 makes no such noise. I'm annoyed that they reversed themselves and now say the noise is normal. As I'm driving home, I realize the noise has a suction or aspiration quality to it. I'm wondering if its a turbo issue.
So, if anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears.
Do you think its better to work with the same dealer or try a new one? The next nearest dealer is continental motors in Oceanside, about 30 minutes away. Anyone know anything about their service department.
I know this never would have happened at Spreen's.

On another subject, while waiting for a ride home I decided to check out the 9-3 ss. I was unshaven, in jeans and a tee shirt. Not one salesman (despite no other customers) would even offer a hello, or offer to help me. I guess I just don't seem like a Saab buyer. Too bad, I was actually considering buying a third.
