Being in the Saab selling business, I am always amused by the notion that a salesperson who needs you to trust him so he can feed his family, would leave any money on the table so to speak, in telling you about a big discount availible on a particular car.
That's not to say you should just accept what a saleperson says blindly, you need to do your research.
The situation I'm referring to is the natural assumption that a big discount will be proportionally bigger by shopping more. The bigger the discount quoted the more room they're must be. That's what I mean when I say push, push, push against the wall.
With Saab specifically there is also much mixing of sedan and wagon pricing and discounting and often they're are substantially different incentives and supplies.
And as phred points out lot's of what you hear are semi-rediculous prices designed to guage your reaction.
