Back in the dark ages when I was in grad school studying Human Factors Engineering, I spent a semester and several projects analyzing the 900S's (NG900) cluster and AC/radio controls for school projects. While there are some things in Human Factors that are subjective, there is also quite a bit of objective work that goes in, to predict as well as assess usability. Much of it is excruciatingly boring, btw (Task analysis :-))
The results were extraordinary. I remember finding perhaps one or two things that needed a minor adjustment, and these were fixed in subsequent versions of the vehicle.
Driving the 2003 9-5 LW with the ACC and all that, I haven't found time to repeat the analysis, but I would wager it's the same quality. In this day and age of buttonitis and designs like my D*non AV receiver remote (I've had the unit for a year and still can't tell which end of the remote I'm holding) it is refreshing to see that HF is given due consideration.
