I had exactly the same problem on my 02 Aero (Built April 2002), when the windshield was absolutely perfectly clean - inside and out and you drove in bright sunlight - the glass appeared to have thousands of absolutely tiny specks - almost like extremely small stone chips. I believe that the plastic laminate layer was contaminated with dust during the production process.

At first I though I was imagining it - the dealer inspected it (in bright sunlight) and agreed but needed that Saab dealer rep to inspect it and authorise repalcement - predictably the guy couldn't find anything and refused.
After much fighting, over several weeks, Saab UK replaced the windshield -interesting Saab introduced a 'Warranty defect code' for 'Contaminated Glass' at about the same time - clearly I wasn't alone.

Ironically when the new windshield was about a week old - a huge stone chip totalled the screen................

'Glass Warranty' is a major pain with most manufacturers - you will need to be prepared to fight. If the glass is already externally damaged you are most probably wasting your time.
