I have 2001 Aero Wagon, automatic with 45K miles on it. I'm bringing it in for the following issue that I have noticed most recently and some that have been ongoing. Anyone care to add anything that I may be overlooking??
I will be leaving this list with the dealer. I told him these things on the phone BUT I always leave this in the car too for the actual guy doing the service. I feel that if the service guys thinks the owner is a neat freak and treats his/her car with respect then they too will treat the car with respect. This may be complete wishful thinking on my part but I sleep better thinking it.........
The LIST
1. Front end clunks. It had clunked intermittanlty for awhile but now doing it most of the time. Noise comes from both sides as well. Typically one side or other, never at the same time though. It’s more apparent when reversing (from a stop) and turning the wheel. Also it happens when coming to a hard stop and then accelerating. Drive the car hard and you will hear it. Very similar noise to my old SAAB that needed ball joints but it did have 120K miles on it when I got this noise.
2. Engine is knocking. I only use 93 Octane gas. I did put a water remover in the system about 4 months ago so I suspect it’s due to bad plugs or my DI is on the way out. When I drive this car (compared to the wife) I open it up on the highway so I know carbon build up should be very minimal. (2 speeding tickets in one month) Argh!!
3. The AC Compressor seems way too loud compared to my brothers 2003 Aero. When standing outside the car with the AC on it sounds like a diesel truck. With the AC running hit the ECON button and notice the hug sound difference.
4. Did you guys get an alignment machine for Aeros yet? Last time car was in you couldn’t align it BUT the car drives straight BUT the wheel is off center. Can you make the wheel sit on center?
5. Oil Change
6. I never mentioned to John in Service on the phone but just remembered an important piece of information. In the last 2 months I have gone through 2 headlights and a rear light. Could be a coincidence OR could be the alternator overcharging?? Can you check this please? I have visions of my car being towed when the odometer hits 51K miles and I’m stuck with a bill of $700 bucks for an alternator and battery.
7. Last BUT not least. Fix anything you feel the car needs based on your history with these. (that would be covered under SAAB warranty). This car comes off warranty fairly soon. Keep the car for an extra day if you like.
