I suppose in a perfect world we'd all have event-specific vehicles. Get out the big 'un when hauling more than 2 kids/dogs/folks, hop in the medium one when hauling just one kid and the pups, use the sexy small one when its just me 'n she slipping out for dinner. However, here in the real world, the portion of the trip hauling 5 kids plus swimming/soccer gear to the meet/match is sandwiched between solo stops at the store, commuting to/from work, or getting a double decaf nonfat frappalottomus. Needing the convenience of minivan/SUVs (in our case Windstar, moving to Pilot) doesn't mean all day, every day, but we're limited in our budget/garage space as to how many event-specific vehicles we can use.
Besides, if all our hearts were pure, we'd all drive I-4 Camrys and donate the $12k difference to your favorite save-the-earth charity (hey, this was meant in humor, not to tweek anyone off).
