The dual-zone can *sustain* up to a whopping +/- 2 degree Celsius difference between driver and passenger, with the driver side being the base. This doesn't mean the air coming out of the vents is only 2 degrees different, but the cabin temperature is actually 2 degrees different. They did a lot of computer fludized dynamics modeling to get to this tremendous achievement.
Therefore, to all you saying your wife/girlfriend has to switch yours too, they are on to something. If you have yours set at 66, the highest the passenger can effectively get is 68 (regardless of how high she sets it). To get to 74, you need to be at 72 (I'm not bothering to do the C to F conversion... C degrees are somewhat larger than F degrees). At least this is how the orignal 9-5 worked (source: Saab 9-5 book).
