there is a world of difference. On the same incline on the same day, I drove a 540i up a hill and it could only muster 85. The aero was able to do 105 in the same distance. It took the 540 7 seconds to go from 60 to 75 in top gear, the saab less than 4 seconds. the Bimmer was faster off the line, but starts sucking wind in the mountains and demands downshifts to maintain speed. The saab stays in 5th all the way beyond 10,000 feet. I'm sure it's a different story down at sea level.
I do agree that the BMW has better quality, but the ergonomics were not as good, and I can't live without night panel now. I calculated that it would cost me 1000$ a year more to drive the BMW because the mileage was not as good. I really do like BMW, but you get such a better value in the saab, and it's high altitude performance is amazing.
