Sounds like the NG900, I assume the problem is the same, if not worse in the 9-5: the subframe is in the way. There's no place to put an impact wrench in, only a cut-down 8mm hex key. I did break mine loose, but only because I got angry and lowered the car on the tool sticking out the bottom. I don't suggest that, because it's dangerous and if the key slips, the plug is toast. It may be time to go to a dealer or a shop.
People have frequently given up on this job because the plug is in too tight. The level and fill plugs are similarly tight, but the drain is just in a bad spot.
