A machined drain plug with a machined groove for an 0-ring would be great.
The surface of the oil sump should then also be spot machined where the bolt head contacts it.
One concern is the aluminum galling and been torn up by the drain bolt. If the drain bolt head contact face is hard and smooth, there should not be a problem.
The o-rings will not last forever. With the oil and heat, they will take a set and not seal well over time.
This would be a nice feature with the large head stainless steel magnetic drain plugs which are fully machined.
Alternatively, one could make a thicker washer with two grooves for O-rings. These could be offset to reduce thickness. That should work with inexpensive drain plugs. This could be net shape die cast. There are aluminum-zinc alloys that have yield strenghts of 80,000 PSI. Could be inexpensive if mass produced.
