Like right now on a 2003 Aero. It's a $5k incentive *OR* 0% financing, but with the lease it's a $4k incentive *AND* a .7% (7 tenths of one percent) lease rate for 36 months.

Leases have less well know advantages than lower payments.
Gap protection is included which means you'll never have a negative balance to pay if the car is totalled or stolen. Depreciation insurance which means the residual value is guaranteed without regard to market fluctuations as hit Ford Explorers for example. Sales tax advantages which means you pay sales tax only on the payments, not on the entire amount. If you own or finance a car and it's hit and fixed it will have a diminished value. If it's leased you can just turn it it for the agreed residual value without regard to a lessening of the value owing to previous bodywork or airbag deployment.

I always like to point out that whether you buy or lease you'll still spend about the same overall amount to own/lease the car for the same period of time. Buy and trade in on the short term or lease and turn in. Or buy and keep forever vs. leasing and buying at the end of the lease. It will all cost roughly the same for the same period of time. Lease payments will be lower, but if you decide to keep the car you'll wind up paying longer.

Overall though the $1k less incentive for the lease ($4k for the lease vs $5k for purchase) is more than made up for by the super low rate. That comes with the lease.

As a Saab sales person. it's nice to have lease folks who have to look at a new car at the end of the lease or consider buying out their lease instead of just making the last payment. That is at the end of the lease you have to do something, at the end of a purchase contract you don't.

Bless the folks who get a new car every 3-4 years on a lease. If that's not your style you can still take advantage of the low payments and better overall deal and lease with the intention of buyingat the end. If you lease you'll have the option to purchase *OR NOT*. Who knows things might change for you or the world might change. If you purchase it will just be what it is and you won't have the choice.
