But have you aasked yourself how long they are likely to stay true now that the thermal mass has been reduced from the minimum that GM thought they could get away with when new? The reason new rotors are as thin as they are is $$$. A thicker rotor has more thermal stability during the heating and cooling cycle, and is less prone to warping and distortion and cracking. If you cut the rotors, put new pads in, and then have to go back in 10,000 miles later to correct what has now gone bad, have you really saved? Saab is not just making up a story to sell rotors when they suggest replacement rather than cutting. My indy mechanic, who is the most honest guy out there,also tells me that he only replaces now after having some bad luck with turning or cutting rotors, both on and off the car.
