Oil drain plug washer question...

Just got back from the dealership where I picked up an oil filter and drain plug washer, but when I opened the box I found some strange looking contraption which is essentially a brass washer with a rubber overmoulding in the center. Called the parts guy and he assures me this is the correct washer.
I've never gotten anything like this before, just moved to a new place and this is a different dealership than I used to go to to get my stuff.
Is this a new revision of the drain plug washer? Have I been using the wrong one all along (standard brass washer previously)
Anyone used this rubber/brass washer? It doesn't even look big enough to fit over the plug, but it has been a few thousand kms since I last changed the oil.
Thanks for the help
