growling engine: idler and tensioner pulley replacement

There is a distinctive growling coming from the right side of the engine in my '99 9-5 2.3L LPT sedan with 93K miles.
After searching on this board, the consensus seems to be that the idler and/or tensioner pulleys are at fault. There are two idler pulleys, and one tensioner assembly with a tensioner pulley attached. So three pulleys in total.
Should I replace the two idler pulleys, or the tensioner pulley, or all three pulleys? Is there any consensus about which exact pulleys seem to fail at middle-age mileage? (I would like to keep the stock setup, so am not interested in the short belt option.)
I was thinking that I could remove the serpentine belt, then spin each pulley in place and see which one was grinding. Do you think that is being 'penny wise, pound foolish'?
I found 'Ed MA's excellent posting with instructions on how to replace the pulleys.
