Hello,
as a rule of thumb, you should not save money in a wrong place. Have your dealer replace all three pulleys before you pay for a bigger damage. The price (pulleys total including labour of approx. 1 hour) is marginal compared to your potential loss if, for example you get stranded with a torn serpentine belt and subsequent damage to the surrounding accessoirs (i.e., air condition compressor, alternator, hydraulic pump) and incure towing costs on top.
Actually, after having this service done on my 99 9-5 at 100k km, I noticed an interesting fact:
- here in Germany, dealers replaces the belt AND all 3 pulleys as a precaution measure (this is more costly, of course)
- in the U.S. and Canada, most dealers replace only the belt (pulleys are not required by Saab maintenance schedule, but they DO BREAK!!!) and wait for the customer to return with a bigger damage ... I suspect that the "naive" customer is being not really helped here since the breakdown of some of the pulleys is pre-programmed here.
Just my 2 cents.
