"required" is what's written in the "service and warranty booklet", required to a) keep the warranty in force, and 2) get the car through the lease period.
"recommended" is what the folks who are frequently on this list would do to their own cars. As for the charge, I'd guess an hour's shop time at your dealer's labor rate, Saab List for the filter and two seals, Saab List for 3 liters of Liquid Platinum Transmission Fluid.
Make sure your Indie knows to use Exxon T5 in the tranny.
