No combustion byproducts blasting past the piston rings. Aren't the BMW trannies sealed for life?
What are your feelings about excessive maintenance? Do you have any hard numbers to back up your feelings? You're in a position to get a lot of feedback. Do you practice what you preach? (Ever see a mechanics car?)
I used to work at a VW dealership where it was recommended to repack the CV joints at 30k. The highest paid Saturn mechanic made a fortune on four wheel alignments. Belts and hoses every 90k anybody? Cracked surpentine belts, leaks vs. weeps, 5k oil changes with synthetic.
Do you have a feeling for the truth? Is there some particular recommendation you endorse?
From my position in sales we want to minimize the maintenance requirements and expense. I sorta' like the anecdote where the 100 year old guy drinks and smokes and the 50 year old drops dead of a heart attack while jogging.
Is it maintenance or is it karma?
