We have now 2 9-5,s a 2001 linear sw and 2003 Aero sw the first with Gislaveds and second with Nokian Qs. Yesterday the Aero handled unbelievably on a long Hway trip in Sw ontario , in very icy conditions with the ice on offramps getting possibly to where one could arguably skate on as the day broke. Both are so surefooted in these conditions and at high speed I did passing all the cars and trucks including the garbage monsters I thought then it was so much easier to drive FWD with the ESP light going on and barely a palpable indication of slippage. Added to combined 120K of absoltely trouble free time in the two cars I have little doubt what the replacements will be for both cars in about 2 years with both earmarked for 55K per year. I am not sure if I would have felt more secure yesterday with an AWD part or fulltime neither of which I dont believe would made a greatdiffereence . Why chance it with Audi prices and spotty reliability? I am not knocking them but is there perhaps some snob value to S6 excess ML430 or 55,s etc. etc?or other such overpowered hotrods. I can also say that with rural Ontario being full of F150s and chvy/GMC trucks these were sliding all over yesterday.Stay with something you can trust. Also an acquaintance has an XC90 which he finds cannot handle too well in crosswinds on the hway even with different tire inflations.
