Well, count me among the DI failures.
Mine went suddenly, stranding me on the side of I-69 as it loops around north side of Ft Wayne. A very busy stretch at 7:00 pm Wednesday night.
I'm cruising at 70, suddenly the car begins to decelerate. The engine was still runing, and I could give it some more gas and see tach rise, but the car acted like it wasn't in gear. I tried dropping down to D4, noticed no change, then became more interested in getting car safely onto the side of the road, than trying to diagnose the problem.
Got parked on the side of the interstate, couldn't restart car.
SAAB roadside assistance, car towed to dealer, sat there new year's day.
Yesterday, service initially told me bad DI, maybe bad turbo, but as they spent more time with it, they determined that the catalytic converter was also bad, not the turbo. It stumped them at first, as the sensors upstream and downstream of the catalytic had no fault codes, only the turbo sensor indicating excessive back pressure. After pulling the catalytic the car ran fine.
So, new DI already on it, waiting on a catalytic converter. Probably tuesday should have car back.
I spoke with salesman earlier in the day, telling him that I might need a loaner, really was hoping for something better than a Grand Am from Enterprise. They set me up with a 2003 9-5 Linear sedan that someone had traded just traded in (probably for an Aero SW). It has the paddle shifters, I'll have to try them out. See if any better than the Sequential Sportshift that were on my 1998 Prelude. I wasn't impressed with the Prelude's manumatic, find my 2002 Aero having much better automatic perfomance (in Sport mode).
