After just posting five minutes ago I've had few problems with my car, I just remembered a small (non-mechanical) issue that bugs me from time to time. It's almost not worth bugging people here over this but here goes:
If I turn on the stereo (whether the source is the radio or CD) and put the volume all the way down, obviously there is no sound - the system is mute. If I increase the volume just one click up, there is a very noticable hiss from the sound system - almost at the level of the music itself (which isn't very loud at this point). From a signal to noise ratio (SNR) audio perspective it would be horrible. As I increase the volume the music gets louder and thankfully the background hiss stays at that low level. It's not a big deal, unless I'm sitting in my car parked listening to something classical but it has me wondering is this normal to all 9-5's or could I have an issue with my stereo. I think the next time I'm at the dealership I'll listen in to a new vehicle and probably listen to an old '00 as well to see if this is the same in all 9-5s.
If this is an issue with my stereo, is something like this covered under the warantee (I'm covered to 6yr/100K).
Thanks,
Kevin
p.s.
Has anyone come up with any good ideas of adding BlueTooth to the Saab system (for phone useage) using aftermarket means. I saw an item on eBay that plugs into a cigarette lighter containing a speaker/mic for use with bluetooth phones. I'm thinking if I bought one of these bad boys, I could hack into the speaker & mic lines and use them with the handsfree wiring adapter available for '00 9-5's (not available for cars equipped with OnStar). Someone had awesome instructions showing how to do this (minus the bluetooth) a while back.
