Always easier with air, I used a loooong 1/2" torque wrench and managed to do it. Spring compressors also make the job easier, I rented a pair from PepBoys. It's not one of those deals where you really compress it alot, just a little to clear the carrier. I may have posted the procedure ahile back, if I didn't, I'll dig it up and post it.
