I'm basically coming out of a 50k warranty on my '00 Aero--a little nervous about it but so far the car's been fairily solid, outside of regular maintenance issues, a blown fuel pump, DI, the rear view mirror, and a dead battery, etc.

Anyway, I actually know personally a dealer that offered an extended GMPP warranty at cost--it was still *SO* expensive. It's a very thorough warranty, but how expensive you ask? Try 2yr 24k for $1,555, 3yr 36k for $2,075, or 4yr 48k for $3,240. And then there's the $100 deductible per service. In fact, my friend said that the warranty for my Aero actually costs more than a warranty for a Corvette.

For that money I'd need to expect *MAJOR* things to go wrong very quickly, pre 100k mi, to even consider it. I understand the idea is for the dealer to make money on the warranty, but $3,240 in repairs over the next 4 years? I'm not sure about that. I *know* that the DI could go out again, the SID, but outside of that...not sure if there's anything major that's common. Turbo maybe? But I don't think those go out often on Aeros.

Anyway, my question is--anyone buy a warranty from another offerer in CA? To be honest, I wasn't planning on spending more that around $1,500 for one and I was hoping that would be another 50k mi warranty or so. Perhaps I was dreaming. Maybe I'm naive as what to expect as far as repairs--but this is a Consumer Reports recommended vehicle we're talking about.
