bRAD listed the torque ratings and horsepower peaks. Unlike most cars, the 9-5 doesn't have a torque "peak", since it produces maximum torque over a wide range of rpms. It produces 258 lb-ft (272 while in overboost) at all rpms from 1,900-4,500. More like a torque plateau. The old S4 managed to get it's 258 lb-ft 50 rpms sooner, but apparently doesn't hold it as rpms rise. And to say that the Aero doesn't have good low end torque is ignorant. You're making the common mistake of equating turbo lag with lack of torque at low rpms. The Aero's got a boatload of it, as the specs show. That it takes the engine a second to work up to full boost is another issue, but the fact is if you tromp on the gas at 1,900 rpms you get full torque. At 3,000 rpms or more, the turbo lag is non-existent. With it's low pressure turbos the S4 would certainly have less lag at those low rpms, but it also doesn't maintain it's peak torque like the Aero does.
You're right that just peak values don't necesarily tell you how a car performs in real life. You gotta look at the values, the rpms, engine displacement, etc. I test drove a 6 speed G35 when I was car shopping and was more impressed with the Aero's performance.
