Yes, my toes are very cold. I have taken to wearing felt lined boots to work, and my feet hurt for an hour after I get into my office.
I do all my own maintenance. Nothing really fazes me. I had to replace the differential and the oil pan on my Ford truck... and I ordered the parts and did it. Exhausts, brakes, tune-ups... piece of cake.
According to the two mechanics I spoke to, the whole heater box needs to be replaced, and the part itself costs $1800. One mechanic said that he was in fact doing one that day, and that the problem "has become a 9-5 issue". He's done several this winter.
So this heater flap problem has me very frustrated. If it takes a real, trained Saab mechanic 15 hours to repair it, I know I won't be able to do it myself. After 6 hours, I'd be staring at the removed dash wondering why I ever attempted it.
So, yes, it is tempting to just chuck the whole car and see what I could get for it. My local Ford dealer offered me $2000 for it as a trade in. As he said "waidaminit... cloth, manual... 'dis 'tings got no book".
So I'll wear my boots for a while and save my money for the repair.
