When I drove a 9-3SS Linear (auto) demo a while back it didn't feel faster than my '02 Aero; it felt about the same as a BMW 325i auto. I'd guestimate 0-60 in the high-7 second to low-8 second range.

Full boost does come on extremely quickly in the 9-3SS, but it never comes on as strong.

Maybe your impression *is* due to the gearing/weight; for example, a friend's '03 Corolla S 5spd is very light and has short gearing, along with an overly sensitive gas pedal. The thing spins its tires all the time, it's ridiculous. Gives you the impression that it's a quick car, but it's really not. Always scrabbling for traction, it's one of the worst FWD setups I've driven in a while. I've always been displeased with FWD Toyota handling (the old RWD setups of the late-70s/early-80s were good though)

All the car rags place the 9-3 Vector (manual) at about 7.3 secs for 0-60, while the 9-5 Aero (manual) does it in 6.5 - 6.8 secs.

Also, Top Gear says the 9-5 Aero accelerates from 40-70 faster than a 911 turbo!
